SOLVED: ice maker stopped making ice and water is slow

Under certain conditions, however, ice production can slow to a crawl. Kenmore manuals offer only a couple of troubleshooting tips, but a Sears Holding Corporation employee outlined further possible causes on the Manage My Life website, which is run by Sears. Knowing what to check for when your Kenmore ice maker slows down can help reduce your frustration and save potential repair bills. Heat and poor freezer airflow can slow ice production. Step 1 Remove the food at the bottom of the freezer and look for slots in the rear panel. Clear away any ice or debris that may be clogging the slots. Replace the food, but leave the slots unblocked.

SAVE A refrigerator icemaker has moving parts and electrical components, but basically, it’s a plumbing fixture, and many malfunctions can be traced to problems with the water supply. Low water pressure can be responsible for production of undersized ice cubes or no ice cubes at all. Mechanical malfunctions can also create issues such as runaway ice production or failure of the unit to transfer ice from the reservoir to the tray.

The doors are opened often.

He said air gaps were required if I had a gravity drain. It doesn’t matter but I’m a curious guy so I’ll ask. He said in a gravity drain the air gap is to prevent the gray water from entering the icemaker if there was a drain plug. They want the nasty stuff to run on the floor before entering the icemaker. He said an air gap is not required when using a pump. What I don’t understand is how gray water is kept out of the icemaker with the high loop.

Only if the loop was higher than the counter top would it prevent gray water from entering the icemaker.

Posts 8 I wish I could set this as a new post, as it is a continuation of the similar story. My jennair double door with lower freezer was dripping water. Entire unit is only 3 years old. I solved the drip oroblem by replacing the grommet that was clogged for the water evaporator tray. In doing this i had to access the interior of the freezer and remove everything right of the last panel. This included all the trays and the icemaker. Again, the icemaker was working fine. I reinstalled everything and I have solved my problem other than the fact that the icemaker arm feel stiff and does not descend automatically.

I manually push it out and makes ice and then stays up at the top. I decided to start over and I remove just the icemaker to check out whether the spring inside which pulls the arm down, was broken or if any of the gear teeth the drive system were broken. This only took 15 minutes, and when the unit was on the counter in my kitchenThe arm seemed very loose and was able to go up-and-down with the problem. I felt I had solve the problem.

A compressed liquid is normally a liquid with a solid or gas pushing down on it, and in the case of this setup, the air would just be pressurized at the top of the keg pushing down on the water. On a keg, the pickup for the liquid is at the bottom, so what happens is the pressurized air pushes the water through the spout at the bottom, then out to the fridge. Air “floats,” being of a lower density than water.

Push Connect Fittings Type of Plumbing Connections Next, decide what type of tools you will need to get the job done, and it should depend on the type of connections that you will be using. If you will be soldering your joints to copper pipe, you’ll need a lot more material. If soldering, you will be soldering copper pipe straight up to the fridge eliminating a large chance of leakage that most other types of connections bow to eventually. How to Winterize Ice Makers in RVs by Tami Parrington Recreational vehicles equipped with ice makers have an extra step in the winterization process of their fresh-water system. Anti-freeze cannot be used in ice makers, but the hoses must be drained and water lines secured to avoid broken hoses during a winter freeze. The basics of winterizing ice makers in an RV are simple and apply to all ice makers, but it is always best to consult the manuals for your specific brand of appliance in order to help you locate all of the proper hoses on your system.

Turn off water to the ice maker from the RV’s water source. Drain the holding tanks and remove any city water hook-up hoses. The city water inlet connection is where the garden hose connects to the solenoid valve.
